The 5th Masonic District Masters Award

This award was conceived, designed, and developed by the legendary 1995 Past Masters of the 5th Masonic District (Chester County, Pennsylvania). The award was inspired by the hard work and dedication of Brother Edward J. Dazio, Worshipful Master of Williamson Lodge No. 309 in Downingtown, Pa.

The 1995 Past Masters recognized Brother Dazio's efforts and an idea was fostered to develop an award to inspire future Worshipful Masters to lead their Lodges by his example. Brother Dazio demonstrated Freemasonry in many ways, not only by being an effective leader of his Lodge but an inspiration to the 5th Masonic District. There were many discussions among the 1995 Past Masters and a significant point was concluded that Brother Dazio was successful at motivating his Lodge and effectively gaining the support of the Lodge members.

A quote appears on the award which states "Those Who Serve So Well". The meaning of this quote is that a Master is only as good as the Lodge which supports and assists him throughout the year. It is intended to recognize the Lodge, for a Master can not function effectively without their support.

The Masters Award is presented to the selected Worshipful Master and Lodge by the District Deputy Grand Master at the Annual St. John's Day Dinner. The selection of the recipient of the Masters Award is at the sole discretion of the District Deputy Grand Master. See "Requirements" for details of the District Deputy Grand Masters list of expectations for the Masters Award.

The 5th Masonic District Hagel Cup

Once upon a time, somewhere around 1970, the Hagel Cup was introduced to the District by Edward A. Hagel, P.D.D.G.M. of Skerrett Lodge No. 343 in Cochranville, PA..  The intent was to present the Cup to the Lodge which had the largest attendance at District Visitations.  It promotes a friendly competition between Lodges and has proven to be quite effective.  The winning Lodge has the responsibility to ensure its safekeeping and must present it at the next District Visitation.  The Hagel Cup has brought many delightful moments to District Visitation meetings.  It is a coveted award to hold as Master of a 5th District Lodge.
