SUMMARY:History of the Cornerstone
DESCRIPTION:What is a cornerstone? Why do we have ceremonies celebrating their placement? Why are Freemasons involved? These are just a few of the questions we’ll be discussing\, along with exploring the relics from the Masonic Temple’s cornerstone\, placed in 1868. \nAttend VirtuallyAttend LiveStephanie Desjardins \n\nStephanie Desjardins has been a Library & Museum associate for the Masonic Library and Museum of Pennsylvania since June 2022. SUMMARY:Reconstructing a Late Victorian Templar Uniform Frock
DESCRIPTION:Unlike their counterparts in Ireland and Great Britain\, American Templars wear uniforms inspired by the style of contemporary military uniforms. Following the Civil War\, the Grand Encampment set down formal uniform rules that all Grand Commanderies were to follow. These included a knee length frock coat\, which would remain a staple of military uniforms until the Spanish-American War. Using period sources\, techniques and materials\, we will attempt to recreate such a coat. \nPresented by Alex Morrese \nAlex Morrese is a full-time tour guide at the Masonic Library and Museum of Pennsylvania and a part-time tailor and costumer. SUMMARY:Mozart’s Masonic Opera
DESCRIPTION:Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is arguably the most famous classical composer of all time. He composed about 600 pieces of music\, some of which were created specifically for Masonic degrees and events. Most people know of his achievements in music\, but little is spoken of his Masonic or political life. His final opera\, “The Magic Flute\,” holds rich symbolism that leads the observer through an initiation ritual that is meant to enlighten and illuminate its audience. This lecture seeks to reveal the esoteric symbolism hidden within one of Mozart’s most misunderstood works. \nAttend Virtually\nMichael Samu \n\n\nMichael Samu was born and raised in Joshua Tree\, CA\, and has been a Master Mason since 2018. SUMMARY:Researching & Writing “Doneraile Court: The Story of The Lady Freemason”
DESCRIPTION:In her book\, Kathleen Aldworth Foster details the life and times of The Lady Freemason\, Elizabeth (St. Leger) Aldworth. Elizabeth's journey with Freemasonry began in the pre-Grand Lodge era and ended when she died in 1773/1775\, at the dawning of the American Revolution. During this time\, Elizabeth went from her unexpected initiation to being an active lifelong member. She made public appearances in full regalia and received a full Masonic funeral. Kathleen explains the process of her 15 years of writing and research; her personal genealogical quest; the Aldworth family connections in England\, Ireland\, and the U.S.; and overcoming the immense self-doubt that can stop so many writers of both fiction and non-fiction from completing their work. \n\n \n \n \n\n \nOpens in new window\nPDF Download\nWord Download\nExcel Download\nPowerPoint Download\nDocument Download\n\n \n \n \n\n \n\n \n \n \n\n \nOpens in new window\nPDF Download\nWord Download\nExcel Download\nPowerPoint Download\nDocument Download\n\n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nOpens in new window\nPDF Download\nWord Download\nExcel Download\nPowerPoint Download\nDocument Download\n\n \n \n \n \nAttend VirtuallyAttend LiveKathleen Aldworth Foster \n\nKathleen Aldworth Foster is the author of "Doneraile Court: The Story of The Lady Freemason." Although classified as historical fiction\, the author went to great lengths to uncover the true story of Elizabeth (St. Leger) Aldworth\, who was known as The Lady Freemason in 18th century Ireland. As a young woman in 1712\, Elizabeth was caught spying on Freemasons in the middle of an initiation ritual in her family's home. Legend has it\, the men\, including her own father\, were forced to make a life or death decision. They chose life\, and to this day\, Elizabeth St. Leger is the only female member of Freemasonry recognized in Ireland\, where her portrait hangs in the Grand Lodge of Dublin. Her childhood home\, Doneraile Court\, is in County Cork. It's owned by the state of Ireland and is open to the public. \n\n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n\n \nOpens in new window\nPDF Download\nWord Download\nExcel Download\nPowerPoint Download\nDocument Download\n \n\n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n \n \n \n\n \nOpens in new window\nPDF Download\nWord Download\nExcel Download\nPowerPoint Download\nDocument Download\n \n\n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \nOpens in new window\nPDF Download\nWord Download\nExcel Download\nPowerPoint Download\nDocument Download\n\n \n
