The Brothers of Mount Zion Lodge No. 774, in McConnellsburg, gathered at the McConnellsburg United Presbyterian Church Cemetery on Monday, April 11, 2016 prior to their April Stated Meeting. The purpose of the gathering was to dedicate a new grave monument for Brother Andrew Lindsay, Past Master of Mount Zion Lodge No. 210, in McConnellsburg.
Brother Lindsay was one of five warrant members of Mount Zion Lodge No. 210 when it was constituted on January 27, 1827. Brother Lindsay was named the first, and it is believed that he was the only, Worshipful Master of the Lodge, which surrendered its warrant on September 6, 1830.
Brother Lindsay passed away on August 23, 1831, and his original grave monument still stands, but having endured 185 years of both pleasant and adverse weather, the stone engraving is very weathered and difficult to read.
Feeling that Brother Lindsay’s memory and legacy need to be preserved, Brother R. Kirk Cover, Past Master of Mount Zion Lodge No. 774, and Past District Deputy Grand Master of the 34th Masonic District, petitioned Mount Zion Lodge and the McConnellsburg United Presbyterian Church to install a new monument, which was procured from Everett Marble and Granite Works, Inc, through the efforts of Brother Michael Crampton, Senior Master of Ceremonies of Mount Zion Lodge No 774.
