They say hospitality is a dish best served from the heart and never is that more true than during the 4th annual Ronald McDonald House Guest Chef Charity Event sponsored by Lodge No. 2 of Masonic District D. A cornerstone of the fraternity’s pledge to promote community outreach, this charity drive is one example of how Freemasonry, fraternity and fellowship can be used as a force for good that leaves a lasting impression on the local community.

On January 31, 2016, members of Lodge No. 2 donned their aprons and participated in their own rendition of “Iron Chef America” in the name of charity. Led by Bro. Ariel Gonzalez, the volunteers broke into 4 teams and were tasked with preparing their own signature dishes and serving them to guests staying at the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House. Founded in 1974, the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House supports families of seriously ill children by providing room and board to families while their children undergo medical treatments at local healthcare facilities, such as the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Shriners Hospital.

Bro. Doug Fink made a return visit to the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House, as “Finky” the clown, and entertained the children with balloon animals and magic tricks. The stories shared by the patients and their families reminded the brothers of the great satisfaction that comes when they dedicate their lives towards helping others through philanthropy.
